Munir Kaulan (Main Sama-Sama 2021) : Spreading Global Awareness Through Sustainable Artworks

Munir Kaulan is an emerging artist base at Melaka who articulates waste products into interesting artworks. His represented forms of art creation has been recognized and acknowledge by art galleries as well as recycling art competitions. What started as an amusement process between experimenting byproduct materials and celebrating early childhood memories, created into vibrant new life objects has brought Munir Kaulan as one of the selected 'Bakat Muda Sezaman (BMS2021)' final contestant.

The strategy of his art project 'Main Sama-Sama (2021)' aims in achieving several 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2030)' as introduced by the United Nations such as 'Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG11)' as well as 'Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12)', specifically through the BMS2021 concept of 'Art on Site', as promoted by BMS2021.

What started as a philosophical idea embracing children's creative minds, has gain support by participants from different age, background, personality, and art preferences around UiTM Lendu, Alor Gajah Melaka. The process of Art Education celebrated on site has been documented as one of GASZI's magazine limited edition issue by G.A.S (Gallery.Art.Shop) UiTM Melaka. Where such art project shall spark and inspire more future academic references related to sustainability.

Figure 1: "Alegori I: Hati Nyamuk", and "Alegori V: Penamat Angan" at BNM Art Gallery In today’s society 4.0, where we discover ourselves bolstered by the technological advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT), the abbreviation (A.I) for Allegorical Intelligence is undeniably common to be mistaken with ‘A.i’ of Artificial Intelligence. While the latter is the cornerstone for today’s technological era, I find Allegorical Intelligence as simultaneously, as well as substitutable a key-source for today’s contemporary art reference. Representatively, as embodied in the work entitled ‘Alegori 1: Hati Nyamuk (2004)’ by Malaysian celebrated female sculptor Sharmiza Abu Hassan. The work can be translated as “Allegory 1: Mosquito Heart (2004)”. This particular work is viewed as one of the artist’s prominent masterpieces, which encapsulates the spirit of the German term “Gesamtkunstwerk” (total work of art). The term describes works of art which integrates multiple artist...

Each and every art makers have their respective art oeuvre on approaching a divergent expression which harmonises what the exhibition title had proposed "3D Spectrum". I believe a divergent approach in todays contemporary art scene is as well equipped as its convergent counterpart. After all we are unique individuals bolstered with unique characters in a multifaceted society we address ourselves. It is ...
